This client had
a wonderful 3rd floor space that she wanted to organize.
This is used primarily as a family room and also includes an
area with a bed for overnight guests. The furniture in
this room had migrated upstairs from the downstairs living
room and although still in excellent shape, was slightly too
big for this area (in the before view, the oversized arm
chair is blocking access to a large under-eave storage
closet)
Long sloping ceilings, a large pillar in the middle of the
room (housing the chimney flues), and three doors leading to
under-eave storage presented challenges to furniture
arrangement. There were only a few locations where the
sofa and arm chair could reasonably be located.

To give
the guest area a cozier feel, we turned the guest
bed perpendicular to the wall and placed one of the
bookcases next to the center pillar at the foot of
the bed (see view 2). The oversized arm chair
was moved next to the bed to free up more space on
the other side of the room.

Hard-to-access corners are notorious for
collecting clutter! We sorted through
the items in the corner and put them in more easily
accessible locations.

Our client worked with us to identify items
that her family had outgrown - we took away many
boxes of books, old VCR tapes, toys, and
miscellaneous items to donate/sell.
Purging feels (and looks) great! |
